Frieze carpet is a cut pile carpet made from highly twisted fibers. These Frieze fibers are twisted more than the normal carpet yarn. It is twisted to the point that it kinks and bends. Each twist kinks in a different direction, consequently the yarn will not lay down in any direction. This kind of carpet is strong and durable, so it is almost always recommended for “high traffic areas”, such as hallways or living areas because it will not flatten or show footprints or dirt easily.

Frieze carpet is made soft and springy so it feels comfortable on feet. This type of carpet is quite fluffy and airy which allows the vacuum cleaner to become much more efficient than other types of carpet. Frequent vacuuming will give the carpet a bright and friendly feel. What is the origin of the word frieze? The word Frieze is a Middle English term for a coarse woolen and plain weave fuzzy cloth on one side. Though it is an old terminology, it is relatively new to the current carpet industry.
